Royal Shakespeare Company AR accessibility

The Brief

The Royal Shakespeare Company wanted to put accessibility at the heart of their new exhibition “The Play’s the thing”. They had an idea that they wanted to incorporate augmented reality into the exhibition but didn’t know where to begin.

The Solution

MaD met with the RSC to discuss their vision for the project. After consultation with a focus group of service users to ascertain the style and content they wished to see, we filmed information about the exhibition delivered in British Sign Language. We decided to use the format of augmented reality touch points to be displayed around the exhibition. A brand style for the contact points was designed that was simple and intuitive to navigate. Visitors were able to access content about the displays in British Sign Language using their smartphones and tablets that would have previously not have been available to them. The launch event was a huge success with visitors visibly moved.
